During your Mohs procedure, you will be awake but will receive a local anesthetic to numb the area surrounding the site to keep you comfortable.
The procedure involves the following steps: 1. Surgical Removal: Our Mohs surgeon, Dr. Maughan, will first remove a small section of affected tissue.
2. Microscopic Analysis: A pathologist analyzes thin layers of tissue under a microscope to map the cancer’s spread and ensure all cancerous cells are identified. This process is repeated as necessary until it is confirmed that all of the cancerous cells have been removed.
3. Reconstructive Surgery: As a reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Maughan will repair the skin surrounding the cancer excision surgery to minimize scarring and provide the best possible cosmetic outcome.
After your procedure, you can recover at home and most patients can return to work and some normal activities within a few days. With this step-by-step process, we provide a level of care that is both comprehensive and compassionate.
